What is an Add-On Rating?

The formal name is "Additional Certification - Rotorcraft Helicopter."  Have you already learned to fly airplanes?  The FAA allows a pilot who is rated in one category of aircraft to train slightly differently for a rating in another category.  You can "add-on" a helicopter rating with fewer hours of training than required of student pilots.  That is, you're not a student, you're just adding a rating.  Clyde's Air has extensive experience working with fixed-wing pilots, and how to best utilize your knowledge, skills, and abilities to make the transition to helicopters.

If you are unsure whether you qualify for an add-on rating, please contact us and we will help you figure it out.

Private Pilot Add-On Training Program

The Private Pilot add-on-training program will prepare the holder of an "Airplane Private Pilot Certificate" for the privileges of a helicopter rating.  As with our Private Pilot training program, all instruction is done on a one-on-one basis with our certified instructors.  We offer flexible scheduling seven days a week in an effort to help you achieve your flying goals.

Commercial Pilot  Add-On Training Program

The Commercial Pilot Add-On Training Program will prepare the holder of an Airplane Commercial Certificate for the privileges of a helicopter rating.  As with our Commercial Pilot Training Program, all instruction is done on a one-on-one basis with our certified instructors.

Did you know ...

This process works both ways.  That is, if you don't have an fixed-wing license, once you have your helicopter license, you would be eligible to get an airplane license at the reduced add-on minimums.  Want to fly the boss from El Cajon to San Diego in the company helicopter, and then from San Diego to Hawai'i in the Global Business Jet?  Dual rated pilots can definitely expand their career potential.  When you're ready, we can recommend some great places - our neighbors - to add-on an airplane rating.
