Flight Training - Getting Started
So you've decided to train at Clyde's Air. Thank You! Your next step is to get enrolled.
Enrollment with Clyde's Air is simple. Just gather the items listed below, and then call us to set up an appointment. On enrollment day, you'll complete an application, we'll review your individual scheduling needs, and assign you to an instructor.
That's it! You're on your way to becoming a helicopter pilot!
On enrollment day, you should have:
Birth Certificate or US Passport:
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires flight schools to verify identification by a strict set of rules. These rules state that we must see an original birth certificate (we are prohibited from examining a copy), a valid US Passport, or a US Naturalization document. If you are bringing a birth certificate to meet this requirement, please make sure it's the original. If you do not have your original birth certificate, you will need to obtain a new one. This is usually done through the town offices in the county where you were born.
Photo Identification:
TSA also requires photo identification, which can be your valid driver's license. Photo identification must not be expired.
FAA Medical Certificate:
An FAA Medical exam is required for any student that will fly an aircraft solo. This is one of the first goals you will work toward as a student pilot. It can be very frustrating and an unnecessary expense to arrive at the time to solo and learn that you cannot continue to fly, or get a license, due to an unexpected medical issue. Therefore, Clyde's Air requires you to have your medical exam before you begin training, and that you bring it with you on enrollment day. This ensures both your ability to progress steadily through training, and that you will be able to complete your check-ride and get your license when the time comes. Make sure you get the student pilot certificate medical. See our FAA Medical page for details.
Training Funds:
Students generally succeed in their training when they can continually progress. The best way to do that is to be able to train on a consistent basis. In order to keep your training moving, you will want to ensure that at least a portion of the funds needed for your rating are available to you.
Clyde's Air offers block rates; discounted rates to students based on an initial deposit of $2000. The discounts apply to dual flight instruction, solo flight, and ground training. Our Flight Training - Costs are based on these rates. Please feel free to call for additional details, or we can discuss them with you on enrollment day.
If you choose to pay as you train, we can accept Cash, Checks and Credit Cards (Visa or Master Card). Except for the deposit, you do not need to have additional funds with us. However, we suggest that you have them available to you when you enroll so you can progress steadily. This is not required, but strongly suggested.
If you chose to finance your training, your loan will need to be secure before enrollment day.
ATTENTION Non-US Citizens:
If you are an International flight student seeking helicopter training, please contact our neighbors at American Aviation Academy.
Refund Policy:
If you decide to discontinue your training for any reason, and you have personal money (not loan money) on your account, your unused money will be returned to you by a company check. If you have loan money on your account, and you decide to discontinue, a $100.00 processing fee is deducted from your balance, and the unused money will then be returned to the lender, not to the student. Clyde's Air is required to return all unused loan money within 30-business days.
